DEI Challenges Spill Over into Hybrid Environment
Working from home a few days a week may sound appealing, but there could be a cost Nearly 6 in 10 women who work in a hybrid environment say they have been excluded from meetings and interactions, according to Deloitte’s Women @ Work 2022: A Global Outlook study.
The survey of 5,000 working women in 10 countries also found that 45 percent of hybrid employees believe they don’t have enough exposure to leaders within the organization. Interestingly, hybrid workers are more likely to feel excluded than workers who are fully remote. Among fully remote workers:
• 36 percent said they have been excluded from meetings and informal interactions, and
• 27 percent said they don’t have enough exposure to company leaders.
Researchers also compared the experiences of women who work in a hybrid environment with those who work fully remotely and those who work entirely on-site. Hybrid workers were most likely to point out issues with inclusion.
To make the hybrid model more inclusive, the study offers the following suggestions:
• Give remote and hybrid workers access to company leaders and sponsors.
• Outline what is expected of employees in the hybrid/remote environment.
• Ensure that meetings and interactions include everyone, whether in person or remote.
