Michelle Gethers-Clark
Chief Diversity Officer & Head of Corporate Responsibility, Visa
Michelle Gethers-Clark serves as Chief Diversity Officer and Head of Corporate Responsibility for Visa. She leads the company’s global strategy for growth in inclusive and diverse talent, social impact and environmental sustainability. Prior to joining Visa, Michelle served as the President and CEO at United Way of Greater Greensboro where she and her team focused on partnerships to end poverty. She led business transformation and fundraising by galvanizing community leaders, businesses and not-for-profits. Michelle also held a variety of roles over 21 years at American Express, including Senior Vice President and General Manager of Card Operations. She also has experience as an entrepreneur with a consulting firm, as a certified public accountant, and as an author.
Michelle has held roles with global leadership responsibility in the US, Canada, Philippines, and India. She leverages her corporate and social impact experiences to form strategies, operationalize solutions, convene stakeholders, innovate and address root causes of business and societal problems.
Michelle’s accomplishments and career have been featured in Ebony, Black Enterprise, Working Mother, Biz Life, Triad Business Journal’s 2017 Most Admired CEO and 2021 Leader in Diversity, and as a speaker at two regional TEDxGreensboro talks.
Michelle currently serves on the board of directors for Wyndham Championship PGA Tour and the Board of Trustees for her alma mater, Long Island University.
Michelle is an energetic public speaker. Her published book, The Next Level, presents a perspective on leadership. Her mantra is “People follow character and not titles.” She is a native of New York City and currently lives in Greensboro, North Carolina. She is the proud mother of two children, Gregory and Sophia.
