Melissa Harmon
Vice President, Productivity, North America
Over her 20+ years in Mining, Melissa Harmon has witnessed great change in the industry and has enjoyed being part of that change. She recognizes that the path to leadership in our industry has been different for women and is dedicated to helping continue the drive for better inclusion and diversity. She is proud to work for Newmont, a company that values inclusion and is helping to lead the change for the entire industry.
After graduating with a degree in Mine Engineering from the University of Nevada, Melissa went to work for Newmont in her hometown of Elko, Nevada. She has now spent 22 years with Newmont in various technical and operational leadership roles at 5 different mine sites in Nevada, Colorado and Ghana and has also held both corporate and regional roles. She is currently the Vice President, Productivity for Newmont’s North America region which includes 5 operating sites in the US, Canada and Mexico.
Melissa prides herself on being an inclusive and empathetic leader, who thrives on collaboration. She is passionate about building a workplace culture where everyone can contribute and feel a sense of pride and belonging. She has a particular passion for improving gender diversity in mining. While the General Manager of the CC&V mine, she helped that site improve from 10.7 to 15.1% female employees in just 5 quarters through focused efforts and a bias toward action.
Melissa and her husband Andy currently live in Colorado with their two teenage children, Drew and Anna.
