Afaf Qasem
Director of Quality of Life Services
Afaf Qasem received her bachelor’s degree in dietetics and master’s degree in Food and Nutrition Sciences and completed her dietetic internship with The Florida State University. In 2014, Afaf began working for Sodexo at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare as a clinical dietitian for a year and a half before switching to her role as the Community Wellness Dietitian where she created programs and initiatives related to nutrition and health promotion for TMH colleagues and community. Afaf is currently the Director of Quality of Life Services for both Food and Nutrition and Environmental Services departments at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare. In her role, she manages initiatives that improve the quality of life of patients, colleagues at TMH, and the community. Afaf is also on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion council at TMH and the one of Sodexo’s INclusion Ambassadors for her district.
Afaf is pursuing her Doctorate in Public Health from the Florida A & M University. She is also involved in professional organizations and was the past president for the Panhandle Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and is currently the State Policy Representative for the Florida Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. In addition, Afaf is a board member of organizations that help spread the importance of health and wellness in the Tallahassee Community. Afaf is also the recipient of the 2019 Young Dietitian of the Year award. She is passionate about reducing social determinant of health-related barriers in vulnerable populations, holistic approaches to chronic disease prevention and management, cultural competence, and mentorship.
